Medicine, Education, Stratification, Culture, Social Psychology, Deviance The dissertation explores issues of health disparities. While medical sociologists have shown that resources (economic, cultural, social), effect health outcomes, the ways these resources actually have an effect is unclear. I link resources to particular attitutdes and behaviors that scholars of social class have made connections to before (i.e., Melvin Kohn, Annette Lareau, Paul Willis). I show the mechanism by which resources (or lack of resources) become actualized in the form of health outcomes. Research sujects are dialysis patients, a population where the type of resources mentioned above are highly necessary for long-term survival. The project consists of regression analyses based on 200 completed questionnaires, and evidence from 20 in-depth interviews with patients. Kenneth Feldman
