Applying for an Account

Step 1: Request permission to use New York Blue
The step consists of filling out the online form
What happens: An email is sent to Jim's administrative assistant Claire Lamberti. She checks whether this is a new person added to an existing account (e.g. Jim Glimm adding another student) or a new account (e.g. Brent Lindquist requesting an account for himself and his students). If it is a new account, e-mail is sent to the requester asking for a 1-page proposal. This proposal is then reviewed by an access committee. Once approved (either for a new account or for the existing account) all new names are forwarded to "the CRADA" people at BNL. The approved names are added to the CRADA existing between BNL and SBU, the amended CRADA is sent to Stony Brook Procurement for approval - the CRADA is returned to BNL and approved AND THEN e-mail is sent to the approved applicant advising them to proceed to step 2.

Step 2: Obtain a BNL Guest Number
The step consists of filling out an online application
What happens: - mainly a DOE background check. For US citizens approval for issuing a Guest number can be done at BNL. For Foreign Nationals approval must be done by DOE which, for sensitive countries, can take up to 60 days - or longer. WHEN BNL receives the approval AND when the CRADA approval is finished, THEN e-mail is sent to the approved applicant advising them to proceed to step 3.

Step 3: Complete Online Cyber Security Training.
The step consists of a 20-30 minute tutorial/test with instant grading. Approval is instantaneous is you pass. If you fail I have NO IDEA what happens - so DON'T FAIL.

Step 4: Apply for the actual BlueGene Account
The step consists of requesting a Crypto Card account and the BlueGene account. E-mail is sent when the accounts have been set up. As a secuty feature, you MUST go in person to BNL to pick up the Crypto Card. This may or may not be the same time you pick up your BNL Guest pass. If you plan to to both at the same time, you must be registered with the BNL gate at least 24 hours in advance to get into the lab grounds. Call Claire Lamberti (344-3051) to arrange this.
