Cary Staller, Trustee and Longtime Friend of Stony Brook, Appointed to SUNY Board

Cary F. Staller, a Trustee of the Stony Brook Foundation, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the State University of New York (SUNY) by Governor David Paterson. Staller was appointed June 3, 2009, along with attorney John L. Murad.

Governor Paterson said, "Cary Staller and John Murad are two exemplary individuals who bring unique perspectives and backgrounds to SUNY and will serve with distinction on the Board of Trustees. I look forward to working with our new Chancellor, Nancy Zimpher, and the entire board as we work to create a new economy based on knowledge, technology and innovation, in particular by capitalizing on our wonderful research institutions across the state."

Cary Staller is President of Staller Associates, Inc., a commercial real estate firm with offices in Hauppauge, New York. In addition to his position as the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Stony Brook Foundation, Staller serves on the Board of Directors of the Staller Center for the Arts. He previously served on the Quality Assessment Review Board of Stony Brook University Medical Center.

“I want to thank Governor Paterson for appointing me to the SUNY Board. It will be a privilege and my honor to serve alongside Chairman Hayden and the rest of the Board as we work together with Chancellor Zimpher on defining the future of the University,” Staller said.

Cary Staller is a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated summa cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Staller was awarded a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School. Following graduation from law school, he worked as an attorney specializing in real estate and tax law.

He served as the Mayor of the Village of Old Field from 1999 until 2008, when he retired from this position.

Staller is a member of the bar of the State of New York. He and his wife reside in the Village of Old Field on Long Island. They are the parents of three children.
