Wellness Center Rules & Regulations
- A valid Stony Brook Southampton ID must be given to access the gym.
- Food is not permitted and all beverages must be in plastic containers and covered when not being used.
- Jackets, coats, bags, etc. cannot be left on weight room floor. Use lockers and clothes racks.
- A valid Stony Brook Southampton ID must be given when borrowing equipment.
- Only sneakers are permitted. Open-toe shoes, sandals, and boots will not be allowed.
- Only shorts, sweats, and tights may be worn. Jeans, slacks, dresses or skirts may not be worn due to buttons and zippers that may rip padding.
- Large areas of skin cannot be exposed when using equipment. A full shirt must be worn at all times. (No cutoffs and sports bras)
- Hand chalk cannot be used. Gloves, wraps, etc. are recommended.
Proper Gym Etiquette:
- Wipe down equipment after use.
- Remove and return plates from the bar after use.
- Do not throw, slam, or drop weights.
- There is a 30-minute time limit on all cardiovascular machines when other patrons are waiting.
- No profane language or music will be permitted.
- Be courteous and helpful to other patrons.
- Keep equipment in its proper location. Return dumbbells to proper space.
- Please keep all dumbbells, bars, and plates off the padded surfaces. (Benches and machines)
- Use equipment correctly; use collars at all times and spotter(s) on free weight exercises; use proper form; and never sacrifice technique for weight.
- Use equipment at least three feet away from mirror.
- All users of treadmills must wear the emergency stop safety clip.
The Wellness Staff reserves the right remove any individuals who they believe are in violation of the center’s regulations, or who may be endangering other patrons.
Bicycles Available
Bicycles can be signed out at the Wellness Center in the Student Center from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday/Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
Bicycles should be returned with a week of sign out.
Students must follow the University's guidelines and rules for safe bicycling.
