Student Success - Resources
Disablity Student Services
To ensure equal academic opportunities and access to university-sponsored programs, Disability Student Services (DSS) evaluates the documentation submitted by students who disclose disabilities. DSS determines individual student's eligibility according to program guidelines, and, with faculty, assists with the determination of reasonable accommodations for all qualified students on a case-by-case basis.
Please direct all questions concerning DSS to Linda Hamilton at (631) 632-5014. She is available Monday - Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Thursday from 12-4 p.m.
Linda Hamilton will distribute the appropriate forms and forward the completed forms to DSS West Campus. DSS West Campus will evaluate the documentation and inform the student, faculty, advising, and health staff of needed services. The evaluation process will take approximately two weeks.
Room 116 in the Technology Building has been allocated for the administration of exams to those who need special accommodations.
Quiet Study Lounges
The Residence Life Office provides and supports a sustainable environment where students can live and learn from each other. The quiet study lounges will foster an environment for students to focus on their academic interests. The goal of these lounges is to encourage students to excel within their academic studies.
Residence Life has created quiet study lounges within Greenport and Shelter Island Residence Halls. The hours are from Monday-Friday 7pm-Midnight; Saturday-Sunday 5pm-9pm
Student Counseling Center Workshops
The Student Counseling Center will be offering weekly workshops on topics such as "Studying without Stress", "Time Management 101", and "Beginning Meditation." These workshops, focused on providing emotional support and life skills to aid in academic success, will be held at the Writing Center, room 105, the Technology Center.
The Library
With the Stony Brook Southampton library's collection at just over three thousand volumes, the resources are growing in ways that are significant and noteworthy. The basic aim is to support the five academic majors with books, CD-ROMs and reference materials that will aid the students' study and research, and so much more.
As always, the entire Stony Brook University library collection is available to Southampton students via the online catalog system. Periodicals and newspapers are also on hand for current events and leisure reading. Library staff is here to assist you. Computers are available for your use as well. It may be a small space at present, but it is full of resources, and could well be the quietest corner on this beautiful campus!
Library hours: Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Computer Lab
The computer lab offers space for students to work on research, papers, project, or programs. With over 25 computers and a computer technician on hand, it is located in Chancellors Hall room 149. Additional computers are in the library in the Fine Arts buildings.
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. If you need assistance during the weekend, please call (631) 632-5039.
