A Message from the Dean of Students

Anamaria Cobe de Paci

As the Dean of Student Life, and on behalf of our faculty and staff, I welcome you to a new academic year at Stony Brook Southampton!  We are thrilled to have you on campus and all of us look forward to meeting you face-to-face as we welcome you to your new "home away from home."

You are among a unique group joining the esteemed ranks as the first graduating class at Stony Brook Southampton.  Imagine, making history before you even arrive!  The next four years present myriad opportunities for you to develop as scholars and individuals.  Stony Brook Southampton is ready to open its doors to this new, diverse and highly talented student population and expand its academic community.

As Dean of Students, I would like to personally extend our services and support so that you achieve your goals and make your transition to Stony Brook Southampton as easy and enjoyable as possible. Our staff and faculty have been working hard this summer to create new programs, initiatives and services to make your academic year the best.

We have an exciting year planned. We have programs in place created with your best interests in mind - our hope is for YOU to take ownership and provide ideas, suggestions, and leadership to make these programs opportunities with your own creative input and interests.  Below are a few highlights.  We welcome your suggestions!

The Student Networking Program is one of our most important programs. Upon your arrival at SBS you will be invited to various mixers and social events for new students and be given the opportunity to meet one another, establish contacts with student leaders and groups, and socialize with various peer groups across campus.  This program will integrate learning within the SBS community and includes external field trips as well!

Dean's Evening Dialogue Series
will bring together students to interact in an intellectual and stimulating conversation each Thursday evening to discuss and learn about issues relevant to campus and the world through a series of informal discussions by campus leaders, community advocates, and other esteemed faculty and administrators.

Stony Brook Southampton Professional Pathways Program.
This program matches new students with faculty, administrators, alumni, and community members to serve as role models, networking facilitators, and a resource for guidance and learning to navigate the school and beyond.

The Stony Brook Southampton Sustainable Project
is the unique chance for our community to make a difference by developing an integrated and involved sustainable campus.   Administrators, faculty, and students will be involved in this partnership project to improve the campus, and its surroundings and make an initial impact as we "grow green."  In partnership with the sustainable project there exists a myriad of various initiatives, including the proposal of an Eco-Innovation Recycling Council.

Stony Brook Southampton Leadership Development Program
is the opportunity for student leaders to interact with the campus Dean of Students to develop new student clubs/organizations, leadership and resources for the student community.  We are excited to hear your suggestions to build upon this program and make Stony Brook Southampton everything you want it to be and more!

Living Learning Community:
This program invites students to partner with the residence life staff to create organizational projects with the residential hall council through implementation of events, discussion groups, speaker series, and individual community-building projects for each residence hall.

Commuters Coffee House:
Commuter students will have the opportunity to socialize and meet other commuter students through the Dean of Students Office Coffee house.  This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about campus services, resources and programs that can assist you in your success at Stony Brook Southampton.

We're excited to see you and can't wait to start this academic year successfully.  We know you will have some great ideas to share with us, from academic curricular interaction to programs for our Green Awareness Month; we want to hear what YOU have to say.

I welcome you to visit my office located in Chancellors Hall, Suite 251 or contact me via phone (631) 632-5093 or email, Anamaria.CoboDePaci@stonybrook.edu prior to your arrival.  My door is always open and your input is vital as we navigate this year together.
