Southampton studentFreshmen

For admission purposes, you are a freshman if you are currently enrolled in high school. If you have taken college level credits during high school, you are still considered a freshman. If you have not taken college level work since high school graduation, you are also a freshman.

To apply to Stony Brook Southampton as a freshman, please follow these application procedures:

  1. Complete and submit your online application.
  1. Pay $40 application fee.
  1. Download the Transmittal Form and have your school counselor/college advisor complete the Counselor section.
  1. Request High School Transcripts be sent to:

  1. If you have earned credit for college courses taken while in high school, have official transcripts from the college(s) sent to the address listed above.
  1. Have your SAT scores and/or ACT scores reported to Stony Brook Southampton. You can request to have your SAT scores reported online through College Board (Stony Brook Southampton's College Board code is 2548, the same number as Stony Brook University). ACT scores can also be reported online by visiting the ACT website (Stony Brook's ACT code is 2952). Those taking the ACT are required to submit the version with the optional writing section.

 


Transfer Students

For admission purposes, you are a transfer student if you have registered at a college or university after graduating from high school.

To apply to Stony Brook Southampton as a transfer student, please follow these application procedures.

  1. Complete and submit your online application.
  1. Pay $40 application fee.
  1. For every college/university attended, request transcripts be sent to:

  1. If you have completed less than 24 credits from a college or university, request your high school transcript and SAT scores be sent to the address above.

 


International Students

For the purpose of applying for admission to Stony Brook Southampton, you are considered an international student if you:

    • Wish to study in the U.S. under a student (F-1) visa. Those with valid B-1 or B-2 visas, must change their status to F-1.
    • Currently hold an F-1, F-2, J-1, or J-2 visa.

To apply to Stony Brook Southampton as an international student, please follow these application procedures. (Download the application instructions and checklist first).

  1. Complete and submit your online application.
  1. Pay $40 application fee.
  1. Submit your essay. A one-page autobiographical statement or essay discussing a subject of interest or a personal experience written by you must be submitted to Undergraduate Admissions at Stony Brook Southampton.

  1. An official score report for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), SAT, or IELTS must be sent directly to Undergraduate Admissions. Use Stony Brook's code number: 2548.

  1. Official secondary school records with official seal, stamp or signature of a school or government official must be submitted in the original language (if not in English, it must be accompanied by an exactly worded and certified translation). Send all transcripts to:

  1. Transfer applicants only: Official transcripts with official seal, stamp or signature of a school or government official must be submitted in the original language for each post-secondary institution of higher education attended (if not in English, it must be accompanied by an exactly worded and certified translation).

  1. Complete the Declaration & Certification of Finances form. Documentation of financial support for the entire period of anticipated study at Stony Brook Southampton must be submitted. All applicants who are currently on, wishing to obtain, or switching to an F-1 (Student) or J-1 (Exchange Visitor) visa are required to demonstrate their ability to meet all educational and living expenses for the entire period of their intended study.

  1. Complete the Affidavit of Support form. If funds are being provided by family and/or sponsor(s), each sponsor must complete, in its entirety, an Affidavit of Support form and submit it along with financial documents as stated on the form (duplicate this form as necessary). This form must be notarized.

  1. Submit a bank letter or statement for each source of funds. A separate, original bank letter or statement for each source of funds must be submitted in English. Account statements and letters must show actual current amount in account, and statements must be dated no earlier than 30 days from the time it is submitted.

  2. Submit letters of employment verifying income. All family/sponsor(s) must provide letters of employment verifying annual income. If self-employed, a letter from an accountant or attorney verifying income is required. If submitting tax returns for proof of income, they must be from the previous year and must be submitted in English.

  3. If you are an international student already studying in the U.S., you must submit:
    • F-1 students are required to submit photocopies of all Form I-20’s
    (pages 1 & 3 of SEVIS I-20’s; pages 3 & 4 pre-SEVIS I-20’s);
    J-1 applicants should submit a photocopy of DS-2019.
    • Submit a photocopy of both sides of your current Form I-94
    (stapled in your passport upon arrival in the U.S.).
    • Enclose a photocopy of the page in your passport that includes your
    identification photo (both U.S. visa page and home country’s page).

  4. International Students with Dependents must provide the following for each such dependent:
    • Full Legal Name
    • Relationship to Student
    • Date of Birth
    • Country of Birth
    • Country of Citizenship
