Ms. Diana Weir is currently the Commissioner of the Divisions of Housing and Human Services for the Town Of Brookhaven. She oversees the Housing and Community Development area coordinating the federal Community Development Block Grants for the Town. The management of the Town’s Divisions of Senior Services, Women’s Services, Youth Programs and Veteran’s Services are also part of her responsibilities.
Prior to her appointment, she was Executive Vice President of the Long Island Housing Partnership, a private not-for-profit affordable housing corporation.
In the early 90’s, Ms. Weir served on the Long Island Housing Partnership Board of Directors Executive Committee. Ms. Weir, a banker for over 25 years, was a Senior Vice President at the Bank of Smithtown and the Bank of the Hamptons. Ms. Weir served five years in Washington as Chief-of-Staff for the Congressman from Long Island’s 1st Congressional District. She was elected to public office herself in 1999, the first Latina elected to the East Hampton Town Council.
For over 40 years, Diana has been involved in her community, volunteering on various boards and committees dedicated to inclusion and equity for women, minorities and Latinos. She was honored by El Diario/La Prensa newspapers as one of the 100 Latino women of distinction. Ms. Weir served as a Commissioner on the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission, the Suffolk County Breast Health Partnership and the Board of the Bridgehampton Day Care. She co-chaired the Economic Development panel at the Long Island Hispanic Leadership Summit, and served on the original East Hampton High School site-based management team.
In addition to serving on the SUNY Stony Brook Council, Ms. Weir serves on the SUNY Stony Brook Multicultural Advisory Committee. She also served as a Trustee on the Board of the Long Island Power Authority and as a Commissioner on the Suffolk County Planning Commission representing East Hampton. She currently serves on the Town of East Hampton Planning Board.
A native New Yorker and resident of Suffolk County for over 45 years, Diana has a son, Robert, and a daughter, Laura who is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Stony Brook’s Class of ’92. Ms. Weir resides in Wainscott, New York.
