What is Toxic Drinking

STEP ONE: Student Engagement

Recruit students interested in preventing toxic drinking (alcohol overdose) deaths. Student engagement is critical to the success of this program.

STEP TWO: Collaboration of Key Stakeholders (on and off campus)

  • Chief Administrators on campus
  • CPR instructors from departments on campus such as Campus Recreation, Department of Environmental Health and Safety and Student Health Service
  • Leadership of Student Clubs and Organizations
  • Local Fire Departments and Ambulance Corps

STEP THREE: Design a Marketing strategy

  • Campus newspapers/website, FaceBook, Twitter, etc.
  • Attendance at club meetings and meet with e-board members separately with tailored invitations

STEP FOUR: Four-Hour Training Program

  • Heart Savers with AED taught by certified Instructors – 2.5 hours
  • Alcohol Emergencies taught by AOD Specialist and Peer Educators - 1.5 hours

STEP FIVE: Recognition of New Red Watch Band Members

Ceremony where CPR Cards are Certificates are presented. Recognition of students by University administration for student efforts is critical.
