The University is located in one of the East Coast’s most desirable spots–the North Shore of Long Island, about 60 miles east of New York City. The tranquil waters of Long Island Sound are just minutes away, and the white sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean grace the South Shore. A short drive will take you to the beaches of Fire Island, the elegant resorts of the Hamptons, or the vineyards of the North Fork.

The historic village of Stony Brook is within easy bicycling distance of campus. The local museum, restaurants, and shops make the village area a great place to spend the day. The ferry that links nearby Port Jefferson Village to Bridgeport, Connecticut, makes the area a convenient starting place for trips to New England.

The campus houses more than 100 buildings, including the expanded Student Activities Center, the Frank Melville Jr. Memorial Library, the Sports Complex, the Health Sciences Center, and University Hospital. All residence halls were recently remodeled and upgraded. Improved study space and high-tech classrooms are a part of Stony Brook’s commitment to a growing campus.

Life at Stony Brook has something for everyone. The diversity of the people who live, study, and work here helps our community thrive. There is the small-town atmosphere of local historical villages and the abundant international culture of the University.
