The London Times Higher Education Supplement ranks Stony Brook among the top 2 percent of all universities in the world, the top 50 universities in North America, and the top 10 science universities in the U.S. The Wall Street Journal ranked Stony Brook eighth among public universities for students going on to elite graduate programs.
At Stony Brook, you will learn from prize-winning professors whose passion for teaching equals their zest for exploration. Faculty awards include the Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes, five MacArthur Fellowships, the Fields Medal in Mathematics, and a Grammy Award. The internationally recognized Emerson String Quartet is quartet-in-residence here, teaching master classes and performing at the Staller Center for the Arts.
All of our full-time faculty have doctoral degrees or the highest degrees in their fields, and more than 90 percent of them are engaged in active research. Our student-faculty ratio is 14:1, providing access to your professors both in and out of class.
