The definition, possibility, and expectation of printmaking has changed radically over the last fifteen years. Stony Brook Southampton's Almost Beachfront Studio was established as a collaborative venture, working alongside artists of all genres in pursuit of original work created with an expanded view of the print medium.
In its inaugural summer, the Studio has invited a group of established and emerging artists to begin new projects that will be considered for publication by the Studio's publishing wing, TSR Editions.
In addition, two introductory workshops will be offered as electives during the Southampton Arts summer program (July 11 through 29, 2012), illustrating the Studio's capabilities and possibilities for not only visual artists, but also poets, writers, and theatre professionals. Rotating exhibitions during July in the Avram Gallery will feature works-in-progress from the Studio. Artists scheduled to begin projects include Joe Pintauro, Steve Miller, Christopher French, Paton Miller, Chris Tracy, Roisin Bateman, and Thomas Cox.
The Almost Beachfront Studio has four wide-body Epson printers (two 24", and two 44"), and can print on a wide variety of fabrics and printmaking papers, including Moab Entrada by Legion Paper. The Studio is located in the Gold LEED certified library building on the Stony Brook Southampton campus.
