2011 Stars Of Stony Brook Gala to honor Julie Andrews and Emma Walton Hamilton

The annual Stars of Stony Brook Gala will honor entertainment icon Julie Andrews and her daughter, best-selling author Emma Walton Hamilton, on Monday, April 4 at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers in New York City. The Gala begins with a cocktail reception at 6:30 pm and dinner will be served at 7:30 pm. Proceeds will support scholarships and the Stony Brook Long Island’s Children’s Hospital.

Gala 2010The Stars of Stony Brook Gala was created in 2000 to increase our scholarship funding while honoring the brightest stars of Stony Brook. To date, the Gala has netted more than $20 million for scholarships.

Julie Andrews is one of the most recognized figures in the entertainment industry. Best known for the iconic films Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, Victor/Victoria, and The Princess Diaries, her legendary career encompasses theater, film, television, the recording industry, and children’s publishing. Her autobiography, Home: A Memoir of My Early Years, was an international bestseller. In 2000 she received the title of Dame Julie Andrews for lifetime achievement in the arts and humanities.

Emma Walton Hamilton is Director of Stony Brook Southampton’s Children’s Literature Conference, Executive Director of the Young American Writers Project, and Co-Director of the Southampton Playwriting Conference. She has co-authored more than 20 children’s books with her mother, six of which have been on The New York Times best-seller list, and serves as Editorial Director for The Julie Andrews Collection publishing program, dedicated to publishing quality books for young readers.

The mother-daughter team will be honored for its contributions to literacy and the arts. Stony Brook Children’s Hospital has special meaning for the co-honorees, who spent time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with Ms. Hamilton’s now healthy 7-year old daughter, Hope.
