The Office of External Relations is responsible for promoting and enhancing the image of Stony Brook University, for advancing the University's institutional agenda, and serves as the primary liaison to elected officials and community organizations.
The Office of External Relations manages five major service areas:
Connect Stony Brook University to local businesses, civic and community groups.
Develop and execute marketing and communications plans. Develop print and electronic materials, including coordinating production and purchasing. Develop and manage University identity statement and all trademarks, logos and branding guidelines. Oversee internal advertising agency for placement of all paid advertising. Provide photography services and maintain institutional photo library.
Develop and implement the University legislative strategy and serve as the primary liaison to federal, state and local elected officials.
Develop and place national and local media stories for University news and events. Respond to external news media and student media inquiries. Proactively develop news releases and submit story ideas to national, regional and local media that raise awareness of achievements, programs, services, research, discoveries and commercialization on behalf of the University.
Manage online presence and messaging for the University home page, menu system and key mini-sites. Assist University departments with enhancing their web presence via content management system, social media, site construction, training and guidance.
