Further information for those flying in:
Travelers from the U.S. and Canada will find it most convenient to fly into MacArthur Airport in Islip, 16 miles from the campus and serviced by direct flights by major airlines and commuter lines. New York City Area Airports (JFK, LaGuardia and Newark) are 50 miles to the west. Below are listed the carriers and connections to each of these airports.
Getting to the conference hotels is easiest from MacArthur (Islip) Airport. Once you arrive, you may call Colonial Transportation ( 631-589-3500; Fax: 631-589-7911: $ 35.00, with $2.00 for each additional passenger), Airports Only Transportation ( 631-291-6290; $ 55.00, $5.00 for each additional passenger), or East Coast Limousine ( 800-746-LIMO; $ 64.00, up to 3 extra passengers at no charge, gratuity/tip included).
From John F. Kennedy Airport , you can take a monorail to a station for the Long Island Railroad, and from there, take a train directly to Stony Brook University. Look for signs directing you to the Air Train, and take that from JFK to Jamaica Station (look for a map of Air Train stations to make sure you head to and get off at the right station; fee is $5.00; in the city borough of Queens). At Jamaica station, you can then board the Long Island Railroad, taking the line to Port Jefferson (peak ticket, $10.00, Off-Peak, $7.25; buy at ticket machines—will cost more if buying on board train). Get off at Stony Brook Station (2nd to last stop). You can then call your hotel for a shuttle to pick you up (both Three Village and Holiday Inn Express offer this service; see numbers above).
Also from JFK, you can take Classic Limousine, a Shuttle Service ($54.00, $14.00 each additional passenger, gratuity not included). You do have to reserve this service 24 hours in advance (also save $5.00 when booking online, www.classictrans.com/Pages/airport.html,
or telephone 631-567-5100).
You should be aware that in the New York area, where a tip or gratuity is not included in the purchase price, drivers and other service personnel generally expect a tip of around 20%.
