Advanced Graduate Certificates in Educational Administration-Stony Brook offers an advanced graduate certificate in School Administrator and Supervisor (30 credits) and School District Administrator (36 credits) programs. Co-sponsored by Stony Brook's School of Professional Development (SPD) and the Center for Excellence and Innovation in Education (CEIE).

Center for Excellence and Innovation in Education (CEIE)-The Center assists teachers who are curious about support for activities, workshops, and contests the University offers for elementary, middle, or high school students. The CEIE helps teachers develop their own skills, gain in-service credit, and stay in touch with the latest developments in education. Located in Room S-101 of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Building.

Center for India Studies-The Center's goal is to promote a better understanding of India via academic courses and programs that include a minor in South Asian Studies. The Center offers research activities and non-credit courses to the public; provides outreach to schools, libraries, and museums; and features public lectures, concerts, book discussions, and other special events. Located in Room E-5350 of the Frank Melville Jr. Memorial Library.

Chautauqua Three-Day Short Courses for College Teachers-Each spring Stony Brook sponsors these famed short courses on the University campus and in intriguing and diverse locations, such as Costa Rica, Boston, Washington D.C., and at Manhattan's American Museum of Natural History.

Field Trip Program-Groups of 15 to 25 high school students visit the laboratories of the Center for Thermal-Spray Research on the Stony Brook campus. Students spend their time doing hands-on work at each of the lab's four stations.

Geological Field Methods for Earth Science Teachers-Ten high school science teachers work on projects that use geological field methods to collect data. They analyze the data using spreadsheets and other software and engage their students in field-oriented scientific investigation.

Geology of Long Island-In this course, which is offered in the fall, 30 high school teachers learn about Long Island geology and design projects aimed at engaging their students in scientific research. Two full-day research field trips are included.

Graduate Professional Development Courses-Various academic departments of the University offer graduate courses for teachers during the calendar year, administered by Stony Brook's School of Professional Development (SPD). For teachers with a provisional license, a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies is offered. The SPD bulletin lists the courses.

MSTe Project: Integrating Mathematics, Science, and Technology in the Elementary School-Through this program, teachers develop models of MST integrations, which promote the use of technology and engineering design in elementary school classrooms. Emphasis is on student-directed investigations, inquiry and design, and student cooperation. Participants conduct two-week staff development sessions.

Preparatory Provisional Teacher Program-Professional development courses are offered in New York City for uncertified teachers in the city public school system. Co-sponsored by the School of Professional Development (SPD) and the Center for Excellence and Innovation in Education (CEIE) in collaboration with the United Federation of Teachers.

Professional Education Program (PEP)-The University offers undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation and certification programs in English, foreign languages, mathematics, science, social sciences, and teaching English as a second language. These programs are offered during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.

Professional Development Conferences/Workshops for Teachers-Stony Brook holds one- to three-day professional development conferences/workshops for teachers. Past topics have included cooperative learning, teaching/learning English, and inclusion work in the classroom.

Summer Advanced Placement Institutes in Teaching-Teachers can spend a week during the summer learning how to teach advanced placement courses in English literature and composition, U.S. history, biology, and calculus.

Teacher Professional Development Institute-The Institute can help teachers satisfy the new requirement of the New York State Board of Regents to complete at least 175 hours of professional development every five years. Professional development courses are offered on site in Long Island school districts.
