Center for Regional Policy Studies-The Center conducts basic research
in public policy issues and serves as a link between the University and the
public sector, providing all levels of government agencies with detailed,

Long Island High Technology Incubator-Dedicated
to the development of high technology enterprise, this 72,000-square-foot
facility contains science and engineering labs (including "wet"
labs), specialized research facilities, libraries, and office space. Tenants
may use centralized office services and have access to the University's 1,500
potential faculty collaborators and 18,000 potential employees and student

New York State
Small Business Development Center-This Center improves economic prospects
for entrepreneurs and small-business owners in New York, offering free one-to-one
counseling, conferences, and training events. The Center helps individuals
successfully launch a start-up and develop a business plan and provides information
on how to obtain a loan. Other services include export/trade development,
financial management systems, marketing assistance, new product development,
site location analysis, state/federal procurement, technology transfer, and
organizational/management structures. Two outreach offices (one in Southampton,
one in Riverhead) service the East End of Long Island. Located in Room 105

New York State Strategic Partnership
for Industrial Resurgence (SPIR)-SPIR partners with companies of all sizes
to improve manufacturing, develop new products, analyze results, and jointly
prepare proposals for outside funding. SPIR is directed under the auspices
of the Center for Advanced Technology Assistance. Located in the College of
Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Office of Economic
Development-This office links the academic and research resources of the
campus with the economic needs of Long Island and New York State. It works
closely with business organizations and state and municipal economic development
agencies to promote industry-University collaboration (especially in entrepreneurial
ventures). It is also responsible for research outreach publications in print
and in Web media. Located in Room S-5421 of the Frank Melville Jr. Memorial
Library.

Office of Technology
Licensing and Industry Relations-This office focuses on patents, copyrights,
technology transfer, and intellectual property of all kinds. It is run by
professionals who evaluate, market, and license inventions and other intellectual
property developed by Stony Brook faculty, students, and staff. This office
also markets such property to the private sector and is a key point of contact
for the licensing of intellectual property from the University. Located in

and Certificate Programs-Stony Brook's School of Professional Development
offers practice-oriented, hands-on licensing and certificate programs in the
following areas: Bayer Institute Clinician-Patient Communication, Institute
for Adolescent Studies, Insurance Licensing, IRS Enrolled Agents Exam Preparation,
Management Development, Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety,
