Convocation — literally a "calling together" — is an academic tradition marking the outset of a new school year through a ceremonial gathering of the University community. At Stony Brook, the annual University Convocation includes the President's State of the University Address and the introduction of new faculty and administrators. This year's ceremonies will also include a memorial tribute to John Sampson Toll, the University's second president.
