For Student Groups/Organizations–The Career Center works with many student groups/organizations to plan and execute service projects. We work with student groups to create long term and sustainable partnerships with non-profit organizations as well as offer short term volunteer opportunities and service projects. The Career Center works with each group to tailor opportunities based on their area of focus. There are many ways to get involved in community service at Stony Brook. One of the advantages of living in NY is that there are many opportunities for you to organize your own community service. Organizations throughout LI & NYC welcome student volunteers who want to help out in the community during the year.
Grant/Fellowship Opportunities–A grant or a fellowship is a great way to fund personal or student club projects/events with civically-minded goals. Grants and fellowships also serve to celebrate and recognize your commitment to community service.
Community Service Projects for Students & Student Groups–You can choose to participate in a local mentoring program for kids, book drives, or holiday programs.
Volunteer Opportunities–Engage in volunteer opportunities, both on and off campus, including international opportunities.
Be A Mentor–Would you like to be a mentor? There are so many kids in our region who’d be much better off if someone took the time to connect with them, hear what’s on their mind, and give them some good advice.
Annual Campaigns & Charitable Endeavors–You can take part in an alternative spring break by helping others; build a house for a deserving family with Habitat for Humanity; or participate in University fundraising campaigns.
Other Resources–Encourage students to explore the meaning of community service and leadership—two keys to career success and life satisfaction.
