Report and Action Plan, February 2008

Message from the President
President Kenny
In keeping with one of the major goals of the University's new Five Year Plan, the purpose of the Campus Climate Report and Action Plan is to ensure that "Stony Brook will become a model campus for providing an inclusive multicultural environment to all students, faculty, and staff."

In recent years, Stony Brook has raised the bar of excellence in its academic and student affairs areas. Consistent with this trend, the Campus Climate Action Plan seeks to enhance the daily work experience of Stony Brook's faculty and staff, which ultimately should have positive effects on our service to students and Hospital patients. Similar to the Action Items contained in the Five Year Plan, the 53 recommendations contained in the Campus Climate Action Plan will become a part of the University's strategic and financial objectives for the next five years.

Because the intent of the Campus Climate Action Plan is to facilitate positive changes in Stony Brook's institutional culture, the implementation of the ongoing communication process outlined on page 13 of the Plan is key to its success.

As we begin the Plan's implementation, I urge all members of the campus community to take part in making it another Stony Brook success story.

Shirley Strum Kenny
President, Stony Brook University
