
Seasonal, H1N1 flu vaccines to be distributed Nov. 18 and 19 in Student Activities Center
H1N1 vaccine will again be distributed on campus Thursday, Nov. 19, and seasonal flu vaccine will be made available on Wednesday, Nov. 18. Details of both PODs (Points of Distribution) appear below.
Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Nov. 18
A Point of Distribution to administer the Seasonal Flu vaccine will be located in the Student Activities Center Traditions Lounge on
Wednesday, November 18, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, according to Rachel Bergeson M.D., Director, Student Health Service.
A limited number of vaccines are available and they will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. This POD is open to all students, faculty, and staff. The fee for the vaccine will be $10.00 for students and $20.00 for faculty and staff. Students can charge the immunization fee to their student accounts. Faculty and staff can pay by check only, made payable to "Stony Brook University."
This POD is open to All Members of the Campus Community with the
exception of individuals with:
- Severe allergy to eggs
- Severe allergy to a prior dose of a seasonal influenza vaccine
As a reminder, this POD is for seasonal flu vaccine only. Future dates for 2009 H1N1 PODS will be announced as the vaccine supply becomes available.
H1N1 Flu Vaccine: Nov. 19
A Point of Distribution to administer the 2009 H1N1 vaccine will be located in the Student Activities Center Traditions Lounge this Thursday, November 19, 2009 from 9:00am - 1:00 pm, or until the supply is exhausted. The vaccine is free and will be distributed as follows:
All current students, faculty, and staff (healthy 18-49 years of age) without underlying or chronic medical conditions are eligible to receive the live attenuated intranasal vaccine (LAIV), also known as the nasal spray vaccine.
All current students, faculty, and staff in the CDC priority categories, including pregnant women and individuals who are from 25
through 64 years of age with heart disease, lung disease, asthma,
kidney disease, and diabetes are eligible to receive the inactivated
injectable vaccine, also known as the flu shot.
Anyone under 18 will need to provide proof of parental consent prior to receiving the vaccine. If you are under 18 please go to the
Student Health Service Web site and download the H1N1 Vaccine Consent Form and the VIS Vaccine Information Forms for H1N1. Please have your parent or guardian read the VIS forms and sign the H1N1 Vaccine Consent Form.
The vaccine will not be administered if there is no parental consent given.
The following individuals SHOULD NOT receive the vaccine and instead should consult with their primary healthcare provider for
specific guidance:
- Individuals exhibiting flu-like symptoms the day of the POD, including fever, fatigue, sore throat, muscle aches, chills,
coughing, and sneezing - Individuals with a history of severe allergic reaction to the seasonal flu vaccine
- Individuals with an allergy to eggs or egg products
- Individuals with a history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome
- Individuals with an allergy to thimerosal (a mercury-based preservative)
- Individuals who are immunocompromised (weakened immune system) or are taking immunosuppressive therapy
