Pick up your coffee or tea and your bagged breakfast and board one of the waiting coach buses.
Buses leave Stony Brook at 6:00 a.m.
Arrive at the Legislative Office Building in Albany at about 10:00 a.m.

As you depart the bus, signs and staff members will direct you to the Conference Center where you will meet with your team captain and other team members.

Depart for your first legislative appointment at 11:00 a.m.

Meetings last approximately 30 minutes.

During the course of the day you will meet with three or four legislators or legislative aides. Don’t be disappointed if you meet with an aide; they are the people who set legislators’ agendas. These meetings can be just as important as meetings with legislators.

You will have lunch with your team between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

During the lunch break you may take a guided tour of the Capitol, shop in the underground shopping plaza, or visit the Capitol Museum.

After lunch you will continue with your legislative appointments. At 3:00 p.m. everyone will meet in the Conference Center for the end-of-day reception/celebration.

Meet one-on-one with legislators, Albany-area alums, and your friends in other groups. Food will be served.

Buses leave Albany at 4:00 p.m.

Cookies, snacks, and bottled water will be available on the bus. Watch an on-board video.

Helpful Hints

  1. Throughout the course of the day you will be doing a lot of walking. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
  2. As with most governmental buildings, the Legislative Office Building (LOB) and State Capitol have dramatically increased security procedures. You may find yourself waiting on line to go through metal detectors and having your bags inspected as you would at the airport. Remember, this is for your own safety.
  3. There will be several Stony Brook University tables (“the Booth”) set up in the concourse area between the LOB and the Capitol. In addition to cheering you on as you proceed from one appointment to another and distributing Stony Brook material and memorabilia to passersby, the booth serves as the STONY BROOK Day communications hub. If you get separated from your group, need directions, or want to retrieve something you left on the bus, someone at the Booth will help you.
