Your Day

SB Day AlbanyStony Brook Day in Albany is important, effective, and fun. It will kick off in South P-lot with a bagged breakfast and a cup of coffee at 5:30 a.m. sharp. Coach buses will be waiting there for team leaders, student co-leaders, and members to depart by 6:00 a.m. On the ride up, people can sleep, read, or catch up on homework. Buses will arrive at the Legislative Office Building in Albany at about 10:00 a.m. It is encouraged that you leave large bags and coats on the bus, which is the same bus you return on and will be locked and secured.

As you arrive in Albany, signs and staff members will guide you to the Convention Center where you will get acquainted with your team leader and other team members. Don’t worry if you do not know, or if you have forgotten who your team leader is. They will find you. Team leaders will distribute written material to all their members, and everyone should already be familiar with Assembly members’ names. You will depart for your first legislative appointment soon after, going through security including metal detectors and bag inspection. When your appointment begins, all team members will introduce themselves. You will then raise issues and ask questions for Stony Brook, but there is no specific agenda of what you must talk about. This is your opportunity to tell your story and address the topics you feel are important. Each team will meet with 3 or 4 legislators or legislative aides for approximately 30 minutes per meeting. Between meetings you will pass by the Concourse where you can find Wolfie and the Stony Brook booth.

There will be a break in your schedule for lunch, and food will be provided for everyone. You will also be given the opportunity to take a guided tour of the Capitol, shop in the underground shopping plaza, or visit the Capitol Museum. Your legislative appointments will continue after lunch.

When everyone is finished at 3:00 p.m., you will head back to the original meeting place in the Convention Center for the end of the day celebration. Assembly members, Dr. Kenny, and Albany-area alums will be there to meet with you one-on-one. Food and beverages will be served. At 4:00 p.m. the buses will leave Albany to head back to Stony Brook. Cookies and bottled water will be available on the bus. We will return to South P-lot at about 8:30 p.m.

Stony Brook Day in Albany will be a great experience that you will not forget. It is a very positive day full of spirit and camaraderie. This is your opportunity to make a difference, and leave an impression on our New York State Assembly members.
