1. Get Started

PREPARATION
  1. Start working on your application early!
  2. Utilize training resources well before the deadline. The Grants.gov Completing Grant Application Packages Demonstration guides you step by step in launching an application package, and entering data into forms using the PureEdge ICS Viewer.
  3. Download and install the necessary software before you actually need it. Go to Step 2, "Setup Your Computer" for instructions.
WHAT'S NEW?
  1. Contact your Institutional Representative: as soon as you know you will be submitting through Grants.gov. Your Institutional Representative is aware of current technical issues with Grants.gov, and can advise you.
  2. Your Institutional Representative submits the final application: Administrators/PIs/Staff do not submit the application directly to Grants.gov. Forward the completed application to your Institutional Representative for review and submission to Grants.gov.
  3. Administrators/PIs/Staff: do not create an account with Grants.gov. The only account holders are designated Institutional Representatives in OSR/RMG/ERA who submit applications via Grants.gov. While the Grants.gov helpdesk may tell you that you need an account, be assured, you do not need one - the Institution is the only account holder.
  4. Central Contractor Registry (CCR): The Research Foundation of SUNY has been registered in the Central Contractor Registry (CCR). Do not re-register the university.
  5. Time Line: When submitting via Grants.gov, you are required to submit your completed application to your Institutional Representative by 9:00 am, at least 5 business days before the agency’s submission deadline! Add department/school review requirements to the 5 business days needed for institutional review.
  6. NIH eRA-Commons: If you intend to submit a grant proposal to the NIH, the PI must first register in the NIH eRA-Commons at least two week in advance. Contact your Institutional Representative to register. If you are already registered, make sure the profile is updated so it is an exact match to what is on the application. (title, degrees, name, etc.)
