While purchasing a used textbook from the bookstore and selling it back at the end of the term may be the cheapest option, the upfront savings of a Rental program may be desirable. To give students more options, we are providing the option to rent some of the most popular textbooks on campus.
When you are selecting the books for your courses you will have the option to select Used, New, e-Textbook, or Rental (if available) copies. Simply select the rental button and complete your order, providing the credit card information to be kept on file during the rental period.

Well, actually, YES! Textbook rentals can save you money because you're only renting your textbook for the term you need it.
Up to 80%! That's right, renting textbooks saves you up to 80% compared to the cost of purchasing a new, printed textbook. Typically, you're saving 50-55%.
In this case, you may save money by buying used and selling it back to the bookstore at the end of the second semester. Renting a book for two semesters is comparable in cost to buying and keeping a new textbook.
All forms of payment currently accepted at the bookstore including the Bookstore Campus Account (BCA) can also be used for rentals. We do require a credit card be kept on file, even if you pay with a different method. Why? Just in case you win the lottery and forget to return your book. We'll need to charge you for it (refer to section on Fees in rental agreement).
If the textbook rental is returned after the due date, or is damaged, we use the credit card on file to pay for a replacement book and processing fee, as described in your Rental Agreement. We want you to bring the book back so that it is available to other students.
Yes you can use your financial aid (BCA, VESID, or Athletic Scholarship) to pay for your textbook rental; however, you will still need to keep a credit card on file with us in order to rent a book.
The rental period begins the day you pay for the textbook rental and continues through the last day of finals, as shown on your Order Confirmation. All rented textbooks must be returned to the bookstore, in good condition, by the Rental Return Due Date, 12/16. Textbook rentals returned via mail must be postmarked by the Rental Return Due Date.
Yes! Just use the prepaid return shipping label available online.
You can print it as often as you like, but you can only use it once. So if you're returning multiple books, please put them in one box and use one shipping label. You can also just drop off your textbook rental at the University Bookstore and receive a raffle ticket to win a $100 gift card to Barnes and Noble or a brand new color Nook (e-reader)!
On the University Bookstore website, a Rent Option will appear alongside New, Used and e-Textbook options for all rentable titles. If you are shopping in the University Bookstore, look for a Rent price on the shelf tag for your textbook.
The drop/add policy for rented books is the same as for purchased books. Return the book to the bookstore within the allowed period along with drop/add documentation. If you return your book via mail, it must be postmarked within the allowed drop/add return period, and must include a copy of the drop/add documentation along with your book.
Yes! The same return policy applies to rented textbooks and purchased textbooks. During the first week of classes, bring your receipt and return the textbook in its original condition when you rented it to receive a full refund. If you return your book via mail, it must be postmarked within the refund period.
You may decide to convert your rental to a purchase through the second week of classes without any additional charge. To do this, you must contact the bookstore. We will credit you the rental charge and charge you for the book. If you return your book by the Return Due Date, you can decide to purchase the book at the used book price.
If your eTextbook has not been downloaded or you have not used your access code, you may refund your eTextbook within the first week of class.
No, because your textbook is digital, there is nothing to return. Your license will simply expire and you will not have access to your textbook or your notes any longer.
Normal use of highlighting and writing is permitted. The bookstore will use the same standards for determining acceptable condition of rental textbooks that it uses for determining condition of books sold back as used books.
Yes, as stated in your rental agreement, the bookstore can refuse to accept your rental book if it is not returned in good condition. Good condition will be judged by the bookstore alone, and generally means book spine intact, no excessive damage to cover or contents, all original pages intact, all original components present, and no excessive highlighting, writing or other markings. Normal-use highlighting and writing is permitted. If the bookstore determines your book to be not acceptable for return, then you will be charged for a replacement copy and a processing fee.
You will be charged for a replacement textbook along with a processing fee. The replacement cost and processing fee will be charged to the credit card on file. The book will be yours to keep.

As a courtesy, we will send a reminder notice to the email address you provided during your rental checkout and on your rental agreement. However, it is your responsibility to return the book by the due date even if you do not receive this email. Please remember that rental books are due back - or must be postmarked by - the day after the last day of Finals.
