Deborah DiFranco

Stony Brook University Provost Liaison Deborah DiFranco

Name: Deborah DiFranco
Title: Provost's Liaison

What kind of duties do you and your staff perform?
My staff and I work to ensure that students are able to obtain all of their course material information at the time of registration which is required in order to meet compliance of the Higher Education Opportunity Act. The information my office receives is then shared with the University Bookstore to ensure the Bookstore has their course materials in time for their classes. Our purpose here is to also be sure that both the students and faculty have the best experience possible when utilizing the services of their University Bookstore. In order to help this process along, the Provost Liaison's Office with the assistance of the University Bookstore now provide desk copies for the faculty. During the fall and spring semesters, we also hold Campus Lifetime events, which are free events for all faculty and students. In the past, we've had mini concerts, bingo, and even a design-your-own tee shirt contest.

What should students know about the bookstore?
It's not just for books!!! Great dorm furnishing, eco friendly items, logo clothing, cards, gifts and more are all available at the bookstore. I want students to know that their University Bookstore is a fun place to shop and enjoy events in addition to offering the most buying options for their textbooks at the best possible prices.

How can students save the most money when they shop for textbooks?
A used textbook is always the most cost effective way to obtain your textbook. But if cash flow is a problem there is the Textbook Rental Program, which allows students to get their books at a fraction of the cost of a new one. There are so many new options now available for students to take advantage of, I suggest they stop into the store and visit with the Bookstore Staff for an exceptional experience to learn the many different ways that they can purchase their textbooks at the bookstore, including new, used books, rental textbooks and eBooks. There is a different buying option for every student - you just have to know where to look!
