In the event of an accident, the policies governing State and RF business travel for the use of personally owned vehicles while in travel status are:
- State:
- According to the Office of the State Comptroller, the personal car mileage rate allowed by the IRS covers such contingencies as accidents and repairs.
- Research:
- The underlying liability coverage (the insurance carried by the owner on the personally owned vehicle becomes primary for the payment of any claims. After all valid automobile insurance coverage has been exhausted; the Research Foundation's non-owned automobile insurance policy will cover the amount of any valid claim that exceeds the underlying policies.
