Laszlo Mihaly is a condensed matter physicist specializing to infrared spectroscopy and electrical transport measurements on materials with extreme and unusual electronic properties. After he received his Ph.D. in Budapest, Hungary, he held visiting appointments at the Universite Paris Sud in Orsay, at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble and at the University of California Los Angeles, before joining the Stony Brook faculty in 1989. He was elected to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, he is Fellow of the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He served as Graduate Program Director and he is currently the chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
