Dear Faculty and Staff,
From the start, one of the most important goals of my Presidency has been to establish more endowed professorships and chairs across Stony Brook University to help us retain and recruit outstanding faculty. It is my strong belief that it is the scholarly and research activity of the faculty and its ability to generate and transmit new knowledge that creates the foundation of a great university.
I am very proud that we have already doubled the number of endowed professorships at the University, and tripled the number of endowed professorships in humanities and the arts.
Today I am delighted to announce a new Stony Brook tradition and invite the campus community to join me at our inaugural investiture ceremony appointing Dr. Vincent W. Yang as the Simons Chair of Medicine. Members of the faculty who currently hold endowed professorships and chairs will also be recognized in the program and reception. I hope that this event is the first of many investiture ceremonies as new endowed positions are created across campus.
I very much look forward to seeing you on Friday, November 16 at 3 p.m. in the Wang Center. Please see the official invitation here for information on how to RSVP.
