Stony Brook University’s trajectory and brand awareness is on the rise, and with the help and guidance of the Stony Brook Foundation we have engaged a branding consultant to gain more insight about how to elevate it to the next level. Simpson Scarborough, a marketing research and strategy firm that specializes in higher education, uses sophisticated qualitative and quantitative research techniques to measure the attitudes and opinions of people who are crucial to college and university marketing efforts. We have enlisted their firm to help us learn more about how best to engage and communicate with our most important external stakeholders such as prospective students, our alumni, donors, friends, peers, and the citizens of our community and State.
While the Simpson Scarborough exercise is ongoing, current findings have helped me to determine that the University can greatly benefit from the expertise of a dedicated senior-level administrator for communications, marketing and media relations. To that end, I am announcing that the University will conduct a national search to recruit a Vice President for this important area.
Elaine Crosson continues as VP for External Relations, with increased focus on Governmental and Community Relations activities on behalf of Stony Brook. Elaine’s dexterity working with legislators at the local, state and federal level, and her ability to adeptly navigate issues and opportunities with our constituencies in the community have proven invaluable, and it is evident that this area requires her full attention. Elaine will continue to oversee Communications and Media Relations until a new Vice President is identified.
I extend my gratitude to Elaine Crosson for her stalwart stewardship over Communications and Media Relations for the past three plus years and look forward to more success under her leadership and her heightened focus on Governmental and Community Relations.
