To All Faculty and Staff,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Stony Brook Foundation, I
invite you to join us for this year's Stars of Stony Brook Gala as we
honor Alan Alda on Wednesday, April 24 at Pier Sixty in New York
City. The Gala is a night when Stony Brook truly shines and I hope
you will celebrate with us.
In addition to raising money to support student scholarship programs,
this year's Gala will benefit the Center for Communicating Science.
The Center works to enhance understanding of science by helping train the next generation of scientists and health professionals to
communicate more effectively with the public, public officials, the
media, and others outside their own discipline.
Acclaimed actor, director, writer, Stony Brook University visiting
professor and founding board member of the Center, Alan Alda has had
a lifelong passion for science. After interviewing hundreds of
scientists in his role as host of the PBS series "Scientific American
Frontiers," he realized how important it is for scientists to possess
strong communication skills. To meet this need, he played a key role
in creating the Center for Communicating Science and remains actively
involved in its work, including championing workshops that use
improvisational theater games to help scientists communicate more
directly and personally.
We are again offering faculty and staff tickets at a reduced price of
$500 per ticket or $5,000 for a table of ten. In addition, we are
pleased to offer chartered coach transportation to/from the Gala.
Buses will depart from campus and return immediately afterwards.
Space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.
Reservations are required.
To purchase tickets and reserve seats on the bus, please complete and
return the response form (link below) or contact Nicole Piampiano at
632-4197 or Nicole.piampiano@stonybrook.edu.
Thank you in advance for supporting our students through the 2013
Stars of Stony Brook Gala. I look forward to celebrating with you on
April 24.
