Lynn Johnson Appointed to Vice President of Human Resource Services

To All Faculty and Staff,

It is my pleasure to inform you that Lynn Johnson, formerly Assistant Vice President of Human Resource Services at Stony Brook University, has been appointed to the position of Vice President of Human Resource Services at Stony Brook effective immediately. She will report to Barbara Chernow, Senior Vice President for Administration.

As Vice President of Human Resource Services, Lynn is the Chief Human Resource Officer for State and Research Foundation employees working on the West Campus, in the Health Sciences Center, at Stony Brook Manhattan and Stony Brook Southampton and at the Research& Development Park. She also has oversight of the Labor Relations functions for Research Foundation and State employees in those same
areas. In this position, Lynn is the Payroll Officer for the entire campus; she oversees payroll services for more than 13,000 employees at Stony Brook University. She will have an expanded role in the Operational Excellence initiative of Project 50 Forward, and is a key member of the Budget Working Group. She will also serve as a member of the University Council.

Lynn has been an integral member of the Stony Brook University community for more than 20 years, serving in various management positions. In 2000 she became the Director of Human Resource Services
at Stony Brook, and last year was named the Assistant Vice President for Human Resource Services. While Director and then AVP of Human Resource Services, Lynn was responsible for directing the development
of online human resources and payroll services; she co-authored the Faculty & Staff Digest and opened a satellite Human Resource Services office on the Stony Brook Medicine campus. Additionally, when Stony
Brook University and Battelle Memorial Institute became co-managers of Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), Lynn was an important member of the team responsible for transitioning approximately 3,000 BNL
employees to Brookhaven Science Associates. Before joining Stony Brook, Lynn worked for three separate and distinct Local Education Authorities in England. She is a graduate of Hull University in Hull, England, with a Joint Honours degree in English and Latin Literature.

Human Resource Services is an increasingly critical component of a large research institution like Stony Brook, and I am confident that under Lynn's stewardship, Human Resources will continue to be steadfast in terms of hiring, staffing and employee relations. Please join me in congratulating Lynn, and wishing her well in this new position.
