To All Faculty and Staff,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Stony Brook Foundation, I
invite you to join us for this year's Stars of Stony Brook Gala as we
honor one of our own faculty members, Emma Walton Hamilton, and her
world-renowned mother, actress Julie Andrews, on Monday, April 4 at Pier Sixty in New York City. The Gala is truly a night when Stony Brook shines and I hope you will celebrate with us.
Ms. Walton Hamilton is the Director of our annual Children's Literature Conference, Executive Director of our Young American Writers Project in area schools, and Co-Director of the Southampton Playwriting Conference. As the Editorial Director for The Julie Andrews Collection publishing program, she is dedicated to publishing quality books for young readers and has co-authored 20 children's books with her mother, six of which have been on The New York Times best-seller list. Julie Andrews is one of the most recognized figures in the entertainment industry. Best known for the iconic films The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Victor/Victoria and The Princess Diaries, her legendary career encompasses theater, film, television, the recording industry and children's publishing. It is our pleasure to recognize Ms. Walton Hamilton and Ms. Andrews as our 2011 Gala Honorees for their many contributions to children's literacy.
In addition to raising money to support scholarship programs, this
year's Gala will benefit the Stony Brook Long Island Children's
Hospital. We are enhancing our ability to offer the best in
specialized, compassionate medicine to children and adolescents in
our area and beyond. Your support of the Stars of Stony Brook Gala
will have a direct impact on these young patients and their families
as they look to us--the only university-based children's hospital on
Long Island--for state-of-the-art technology and world-class specialty physicians, nurses, and researchers.
We are again offering faculty and staff tickets at a reduced price of $500 per ticket or $5,000 for a table of ten. In addition, we are pleased to offer chartered coach transportation to/from the Gala. Buses will depart from campus and return immediately afterwards. Space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Reservations are required.
To purchase tickets and reserve seats on the bus, please complete and
return the response form or contact Rosalie Kosonen at
632-7699 or Rosalie.Kosonen@stonybrook.edu.
Thank you in advance for supporting our students through the 2011 Stars of Stony Brook Gala. I look forward to celebrating with you on April 4.
