Vice President for Student Affairs
Dr. Baigent joined Stony Brook University as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs in 1993. He was appointed Vice President for Student Affairs in 2006. He leads the Office of Student Affairs commitment in fostering a positive and supportive environment which supports and promotes respect, compassion, success and pride among all students and colleagues. Dr. Baigent’s set of core values includes providing opportunity, access and inclusiveness; collaboration and partnerships; quality and excellence; and personal and community responsibility. His office continues to strive for the empowerment of students by offering services, activities and learning opportunities coupled with making sure that all students recognize and respect the diversity and dynamism of the campus community and global society as a whole. Dr. Baigent’s professional involvements include having held the Chairmanship of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA –Research Division–and is a past member of the Association’s Board of Directors. He is also a past member of the NASPA Foundation Board and member of the EDUCAUSE Advisory Committee on Information Systems and Services. In addition, he also sits on the International (ACPA) Senior Practitioner’s Council.
Dr. Baigent's papers include numerous internal assessment studies as the Principal Investigator with analysis and written reports on NSSE/FSSE/YCY/CIRP data.
Dr. Baigent holds an EdD in Higher Education /Curriculum Development. His dissertation is entitled: "A Discrepancy Analysis Approach for Determining Undergraduate Student Satisfaction with Their Life on Campus." He received BEd in Psychology/Education from Nottingham University as well as a Certificate of
Advanced Study from Harvard's Institute for Educational Management: Management Development Program.
