Proctored Math Assessment
Do I need to take the Proctored Math Exam?
If you have completed a pre-calculus or calculus college-level course with a grade of C or better, OR earned at least a 4 or 5 on an AP calculus exam,
you are not required to take the proctored math assessment. Please submit your official transcript or AP scores to: Transfer Office, Stony Brook University,
134 Administration Building, Stony Brook, NY 11794-1909, or bring a copy with you to your Orientation day. Otherwise, you will NOT be able to register for
math or science-related classes at Orientation.
Important Notes: Statistics is NOT a calculus-based course, and while many statistics classes will meet Stony Brook’s general education math requirement
(called DEC C), it does not fulfill the calculus requirement for science-related majors. Business calculus and many “calculus for life sciences” courses
do not meet Stony Brook’s calculus requirement for sciences either. If this applies to you, please take the proctored math exam prior to your Orientation.
If you feel you could score better than your transfer equivalent course, we RECOMMEND you take the proctored math assessment prior to your Orientation.
A higher score on the assessment will potentially allow you to enroll in a higher level math course.
