About Us
Welcome to the office of Student Orientation and Family Programs! As a new comer to Stony Brook University and the Long Island area, I hope that you are as excited to begin your SBU experience as I am. Having relocated to Long Island in the fall of 2005, I joined the office of Student Orientation and Family Programs in spring of 2006. I’ve worked in career counseling and university student services for approximately ten years, most serving recently as the Director of Graduate Career Services at American University in Washington D.C. I received a B.A. in Policy Studies from Syracuse University and an M.S. in Counseling and Guidance from Texas A & M at Corpus Christi. While I’ve only been at Stony Brook a short time, I was instantly impressed with the caliber of students, faculty and staff that met, and I knew right away that this was the place for me. I hope that you will soon share the same energy and enthusiasm for your SBU experience. We look forward to serving you as you begin your journey.

I have worked for New York State since 1989 and came to the University in February 1996. That is when I started here in the Academic Advising Center. I was the Staff Assistant for the Center. In June of 2001 I began working full time in the Orientation and Family Programs Office as the Office Manager. I also teach the First-Year Seminar, serve as a mentor in the Mentor Program, and am an advisor for the Golden Key International Honor Society.

Welcome to Stony Brook! I am so excited that you have decided to begin/continue your higher education with us. I have worked at Stony
Brook University for over four years, first as a NODA Intern in the Student Orientation and Family Programs office during the summer
of 2002 and then as an academic advisor in the Academic & Pre-Professional Advising Center – working first with the Undergraduate
College of Information & Technology Studies and then with the Undergraduate College of Leadership & Service. My career experience has
since come full circle as I returned to the Student Orientation and Family Programs office in November of 2006 as the Assistant
Director for Student Development. A native of Tennessee, I earned my bachelor’s degree in English from Christian Brothers University in Memphis and my master’s degree
in higher education administration from Vanderbilt University in Nashville. I thoroughly enjoy working with new students and look
forward to helping you make the transition to Stony Brook University.
