Judi Segall, University Ombudsperson
Judi Segall has served as Stony Brook University Ombudsperson since 1997. Prior to her appointment as ombudsperson, Judi was the Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs from 1989-1997, specializing in strategic planning and organizational and program development. Judi has been active in the professional ombudsman community for many years and served as President of the University and College Ombuds Association for two terms (1999-2001), served as an officer and then President of The Ombudsman Association (2001-2005), and as the first President of the newly formed International Ombudsman Association (IOA) in 2005-06. She remains involved in strategic planning and professional development activities for IOA.
Judi holds a Master's in Social Work from Stony Brook University and has completed advanced certification mediation training from the Center for Mediation in Law.
Maureen Brower, Assistant Ombudsperson
Maureen Brower has been Stony Brook University Assistant Ombudsperson since 2001. She has been a part of the University community for 26 years.
Prior to coming to the Ombuds Office, Maureen served as Director of Student Orientation Programs where she developed the first freshman seminar program, SBU 101. Maureen has served as a course instructor since 1990. She continues to teach the course every semester.
Maureen is a proud recipient of the 1996 Chancellorís and Presidentís Award for Excellence in Professional Service. Maureen received her BA degree from St. Josephís College and the MA/LS degree from Stony Brook University. She is currently a member of the International Ombudsman Association.
