Long Island Library Conference
The Librarian Documentarian: Innovative Ways for Libraries to Document and Celebrate Institutional History
Speakers: Chris Kretz and Kami Convery, Dowling College; Kevin McCoy, Suffolk County Community College; Kristen Nyitray and Jason Torre, Stony Brook University.
Description: As many of the colleges and universities founded in Suffolk County are reaching significant anniversaries, it has presented opportunities for libraries to actively participate in the planning process and to embark upon special projects that showcase institutional history. This presentation will include three case studies to demonstrate how the library can take the lead and be indispensable to this endeavor. By utilizing new Web 2.0 technologies to feature archival collections and highlight defining moments in its history, the library can be its own documentarian.
