Extent, Scope, and Content Note
The collection is comprised of five cubic feet of: research notes; journals; correspondence; documents; newspaper clippings; newsletters; publicity files; and ephemeral material pertaining to the study of early Long Island and regional gravestones (c.1680 to 1810). A significant portion of the collection is photographs of headstones that were taken by Dr. Welch.
Biographical Sketch
Richard F. Welch is a historian and teaches American history, western civilization, and Irish history at the C. W. Post Campus of Long Island University. The author of four books and numerous articles, Welch has also worked as a historical consultant, museum exhibit curator, and editor of Long Island Forum, a regional history magazine. He currently serves on the editorial board of Long Island History Journal. He is also a contributor to the Encyclopedia of New York. His most recent book is The Boy General: The Life and Careers of Francis Channing Barlow.
