Coalition of organizations opposed to the licensing and operation of the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station (N.Y.). Nora Bredes was the Executive Director.
Files, reports, memoranda, legal briefs, and other documents submitted by all parties.

Introduction

Nora Bredes, a former Suffolk County, New York legislator, directed the educational, lobbying, and legal efforts of the Shoreham Opponents Coalition, a citizen-led group that helped to halt operation of the Shoreham Nuclear Plant.

Collection Note

The Shoreham Opponents Coalition Collection was transferred to the Special Collections Department from Suffolk County Community College in 1989. Documents which comprise this collection include petition drafts, correspondence, subject files, and legal files.

The collection's original order has been maintained where applicable and re-created in other instances to assist researchers. Items housed in acidic or metal housings have been removed from these housings for preservation reasons. These materials have been placed in acid free folders and containers. All metal clips have been removed and replaced, in accordance with accepted archival standards of preservation.
