Extent, Scope, and Content Note 
The collection is comprised of 80 cubic ft. of research notes, manuscripts, correspondence, and newspapers created and produced by Long Island author, editor, and publisher Dan Rattiner, founder of Dan's Papers, between 1967 and 2008. The October 2023 accession includes subject files, travel diaries, and multimedia on discs. Travel diaries received in April 2024 chronicle Dan Rattiner's domestic and international travels.

Organization: The collection consists of four series: Reporter's Notes; Manuscripts; Multimedia; and Newspapers. The majority of the collection is comprised of newspapers published by Dan Rattiner.  It also includes his published manuscripts, research, notes, and audio files of dictated articles. The October 2023 accession is filed beginning in box 86. The April 2024 accession is filed beginning in box 91.

Historical Note
Since 1960, Dan's Papers, a weekly newspaper has documented the social, political, and environmental history of the east end of Long Island, New York. Dan Rattiner founded Dan's Papers in 1960 and served as its publisher and editor-in-chief until selling it to Brown, Inc., in 2007. He continues to write for the newspaper and has authored several books, including his 2008 autobiography In the Hamptons: My Fifty Years With Farmers, Fishermen, Artists, Billionaires and Celebrities, On the Hamptons Subway (2009), and Dan's Shorts (1997).
