SG I Administrative - the functions dealing with finances, public relations, and organizational policies and procedures.

Sub-group I.1 Administrative--Regional Counsels

Arrangement: Divided into writings and memoranda, arranged chronologically.
Series 1 contains draft and published articles and copies of memoranda regarding the programs of Environmental Defense during the mid to late 1970s.

The Board of Trustees series contains copies of agenda and minutes of Board meetings.

The Executive Committee series contains copies of meeting minutes 1971-1977 and minutes with background material from 1979-1980.

This series contains press releases on the projects of the Environmental Defense Fund, from pending litigation, the release of films, to the publication of position papers.

Series 2: Inter-office Bulletins 1972-1979, 1983-1984 with gaps [2 inches]

This series contains inter-office bulletins written as progress reports.

Series 3: Film & Television Projects 1973-1976 [2 inches]
Arrangement: Chronological.
This series contains correspondence about the planning and exhibition of the films “Planning for Floods,” “Desert in Peril,” and “The Last Days of the Dolphin.”

Arrangement: Chronological.
The grant files series contains grant applications and a few progress reports.

Series 2: Electric Horseman Benefit 1979 [2 inches]
Arrangement: Divided into correspondence, clippings and planning files.
This series contains correspondence about the planning of a benefit premiere of the Robert Redford film, “The Electric Horseman."

SG II Energy/Climate - concentration on energy including setting energy rates for consumers and energy supply projects in California.

Case files and records from administrative proceedings on topics such as: electric and gas rate design, energy projects and conservation efforts.

Arrangement: Chronological.
This series contains transcripts of meetings of the Advisory Council to the Joint Committee on Energy Policy and Implementation in California. Environmental Defense Fund attorney Thomas Graff was a member of the committee.

Series 2: Project Files [10 inches]
This series contains papers related to oil & gas development in Alaska.

Sub-Group II.4: Energy Program—Public Statements/Texts

Series 1: Comments 1973-1984 [2 inches]
Arrangement: Chronological.
Written in response to requests on proposed regulations or policy, comments reflect EDF's position on issues related to energy and air quality.

Series 2: Testimony/Speeches 1973-1981 [2 inches]
Arrangement: Chronological.
This series consists of text of testimony given before committees on energy topics. The most frequent topics are electricity rates and demand, sulfur dioxide emissions standards and energy development.

Series 3: Writings by Program Staff 1975-1984 [5 inches]
Arrangement: Chronological.
The series encompasses articles and reports, both draft and published, on energy related matters.

Sub-group III Water: concentrates on water quality, water supply, the State Water Plan, and the Central Valley Project.

This series contains correspondence, minutes and other documents from activities of committees of which EDF attorneys or scientists took part. Most often, the committees were created by state or local agencies.

The project files series contains EDF's program activities outside the courtroom such as preparing testimony, researching and writing reports, and monitoring developments of the California State Water Project and hydroelectric development of the Tuolumne River.
