Preface
The AIDC 100 Collection is the fourth collection to be accessioned for
inclusion in the AIDC 100 Archive at Stony Brook. The collection provides
an overview of the organizational structure of the AIDC 100 organization.
Material will be added as it is generated and acquired
by the Special Collections Department.
Special thanks are extended to the following individuals for all their
support during the planning and processing of this collection: Kristen
J. Nyitray, Head of Special Collections and University Archives
for her assistance and support and Sean Torre for his technical assistance
and guidance.
Introduction
Manuscript Collection 355 is comprised of the organizational
papers of the AIDC 100. On November 13, 2001, during the annual AIDC
100 meeting at the McCormick place in Chicago, it was announced that
the organization's web site would be switched from Rick Bushnell's
servers to Tina Barkan's server at Symbol Technologies, Inc. It was
decided shortly after returning from this meeting that the AIDC 100's
only source of organizational information was contained on the group's
web site, and therefore any substantive changes that might occur during
the transfers process might lose or change the current page. To provide
researchers with an overview of the original organizational structure
and information contained on the site, a printed and electronic version
of the web site was created by Special Collections at Stony Brook University.
The collection is open to research without restrictions in accordance
with general access principles, and under the discretion of the Special
Collections.. The collection's creator (AIDC 100) maintains copyright
to all organizational publications and papers contained on the web site.
All requests to use or reproduce any of these publications should be
addressed to the Special Collections prior to use.
In citing the collection, please credit it as follows: AIDC 100 Collection,
Special Collections, University Libraries, Stony Brook University.
Materials within this collection may be located with the use of the
collection's finding aid available in hardcopy and online through the
University's Library web page.
Organizational Note
The AIDC 100 is a relatively new organization comprised of individuals
from throughout the AIDC (automatic identification and data capture)
industry. The group was established in 1996 by founding members Chet
Benoit, George Goldberg, and Ben Nelson, as a way for like minded members
of the AIDC industry to come together under the common goal of furthering
the world's understanding of the scope of AIDC (automatic identification
and data capture) technologies impact on business, manufacturing and
people. Below is the AIDC 100's Charter. It has been duplicated
in its entirety to provide researchers with an exact explanation of the
organization's mission, objectives and guidelines. More information may
be obtained by contacting the AIDC 100's web site at: www.aidc100.org.
1. Mission
AIDC 100 is a non-profit, self-sustaining, non-political association
of automatic identification / data capture (AIDC) professionals and others
who have significantly contributed to the growth and advancement of the
industry.
The organization is a technical and business resource -- with emphasis
on education -- whose primary goal is to enlarge the business community's
knowledge and understanding of AIDC.
2. Objectives
To serve as a resource for those vendors, users, potential users and
others seeking unbiased information about AIDC technology and markets.
To provide a forum for the exchange of information among its members.
This forum may include the distribution of technical papers, peer review
of articles, and discussion groups to address current industry problems.
To establish a speakers bureau to make available expert presenters for
industry meetings.
To afford an opportunity for social interaction among members.
3. Membership
There are three classes of membership:
Active: An Active Member must be currently involved with AIDC activities.
AIDC 100 will be limited to 100 Active Members.
Emeritus: An Emeritus Member is no longer actively involved with AIDC
activities. An Active Member will become Emeritus after having left active
involvement in AIDC activities for one year. There is no limit to the
number of Emeritus Members.
Sponsoring: A Sponsoring Member will be a publication whose primary editorial
focus and audience is AIDC-related.
Membership will include individuals from the vendor, user and other communities
and will not be restricted to any geographic location.
Individuals will be invited to membership and approved solely at the discretion
of the Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee will consist of
three members elected by the Active Members. All membership nominations
and approvals will require a unanimous vote by the Membership Committee.
Scope and Content
The AIDC 100 Collection consists of two series: AIDC 100 Organizational
Files and Electronic Media. The first series is a paper version of the
AIDC 100's web site located at www.aidc100.org. this series was created
as a viable method of preserving the organization's web site which is
their main source of communication and information about the group. The
second series listed is the electronic version of the web site. It was
copied and backed up to provide researcher with a browseable version
of the web site. Minor alterations have been made to allow the version
to be searchable on disk.
The series' original order has been maintained. The printed version
of the web site's contents contained in Series I have been copied to
acid/lignin free paper and housed in similar folders.
The information contained contained within the series is the only archival
version of the organizational records of the AIDC 100, making it great
use to researcher interested in how the organizational structure and
web site might have changed over the years.
Series Description
Series I: AIDC 100 Organizational Files, May 1, 1998-September 16, 2001,
2 linear inches. The series contains material kept in a topical arrangement
on the organization's web site located at www.aidc100.org. The subjects
deal with various organizational businesses. The printed version included
within this collection was last accessed November 19, 2001.

contained within this series is a complete, searchable copy of the organization's
web site upon which the contents of Series I are currently kept. The
series contains various electronic backups to the original. The electronic
version within this series was last accessed November 19, 2001. It was
altered to be searchable on compact disk.

consists of photographs and the accompanying negatives taken from 2003
prior to the October 2, 2003 annual meeting held at Stony Brook
University.
