Recordings, 1957-2004 [1978-2004 (bulk)]. 18 cubic ft.
The Audio/Visual
collection consists of audio and video recordings taped, performed
and created by the students, staff, and faculty at Stony Brook University.
The collection was acquired from multiple campus departments and combined
into one all encompassing collection; departments
represented include University Hospital Media Relations, SBU-TV, Educational
Technologies, and The Poetry Center. Unrestricted access
for research; copyright restrictions on certain recorded materials.

Introduction
The Audio/Visual collection (RG 59) is comprised of multiple
accessions of recorded materials. The campus
departments that are represented within this record group include
SBU-TV, Educational Technologies, University Hospital, Office of the
President, Office of the Provost, University Libraries, and The Poetry
Center. These recordings document significant campus events and
daily operations. Items that have been
acquired from individual donors are owned by University.

Scope and Content Note
Record Group 59 consists of two sub-groups that are divided by media type.
Sub-group I is comprised of video recordings and represents the majority
of taped events captured by campus departments.
The sub-group is organized by original order and provenance where
applicable and has been created in other areas to assist
researchers.
Sub-group II, although smaller,
is very comprehensive and consists of audio recordings
of campus events. Restricted access.
Series Description
Sub-group I: Video recordings, 1961-present, 20 cubic feet. This sub-group is comprised of multiple, established series. Each series represents a major event, lecture series or daily happening pertaining to the university. Certain restrictions apply to videos.

Sub-group II: Audio recordings, 1968-1978,
4 cubic feet. This sub-group consists of reel-to-reel and audio cassette
recordings of official and unofficial university functions. Restricted
