Two Types of Article Databases
Which article database to use depends upon your topic.
1. General Article Databases
- Is your topic general or cross-disciplinary?
- Currently in the news?
If so, start with one of the general article databases. These cover a
wide range of subjects and often index a mixture of popular
and scholarly
sources. This is often a good place to begin research. Examples of general
databases and the kinds of articles they identify are:

Date coverage varies, mostly current. Fulltext and some abstracts only. Subject coverage for nearly every area of academic study including humanities, arts, and sciences. Includes magazines and peer-reviewed journals. |

Indexes
over 5,600 sources on general news, law, business, statistics, environment,
and government publications, from 1982 to present. |

Date coverage varies, mostly current. All articles are fulltext. Presents information on complex contemporary topics in a pro- and con- format. |
