Toolbar
The LibX toolbar allows you to quickly and easily do library research while doing research on the Internet. The toolbar allows you to search:
- STARS, the library catalog, for books, DVDs, CDs, music scores, etc.
- Galaxy, our combined search tool, for journal articles, books, book reviews, etc.
- E-Journals for electronic journal subscriptions.
- the Health Science Library catalog, for books and journals on the East Campus.
- and WorldCat, a union catalog that lets you search the collections of libraries in your community and thousands more around the world.
No need to navigate to the library website to search the catalog or databases. Simple and complex searches are supported. For subjects, like biology and psychology, which might have holdings in both the West and East Campus libraries, searching both is easier than ever. You don't even need to cut and paste your search terms. You can even modify the list of resources searched to fit your research preferences. LibX also provdes drag-and-drop functionality, meaning you no longer need to cute and paster. Oh yeah.

Right-Click Menu
LibX also provides the ability to highlight text on a page and use the right-click functionality on the mouse to search library holdings. It's smart too and context sensitive so it knows an ISBN, ISSN, DOI or PubMed ID when it sees ones. It's customizable too so you control the search options displayed. Never use the Health Science Library? Remove it from the list.
Embedded Cues
LibX also adds embedded cues or icons to websites like Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Google, the New York Times Book Reviews and Yahoo.com. All you need to do is click on the icon to see if the Melville Library has the book. Just look for the Stony Brook University logo.
Autolinking
LibX recognizes ISBNs, ISSNs, DOIs, PubMed IDs and other identifiers on web pages and automatically links them to the catalog or Article Linker.
