An excellent online
source for some lab procedures is William Heidcamp's Cell
Biology Laboratory Manual - it includes techniques for the Microscope,
Histochemistry, Cell Fractionation, Electrophoresis, Enzymes, Membranes,
Microsomes, Photosynthesis, Tubules and Filaments, Chromosomes, Cell Cyles
and Cultures, Differentiation, and Nucleic Acids. Also provided are guidelines
for the representation of statistical data. Laboratory techniques in cell biology can be found in the classification QH583 - QH585. Plant cell and tissue culture are covered in QK725 while plant molecular biology protocols are in QK728. Guidelines for PCR techniques will be found in QP606. Some of the collection is in oversize, so check the same call numbers there too (always a good idea). A valuable compilation of cell biology protocols can be found in Cell Biology: A Laboratory Handbook (x QH583.2 .C45). 250 articles cover cell culture, separation, staining, growth, apoptosis, preparation of component parts, assays, antibody production, genetic engineering, microscopy, electrophoresis, and more. The Essential Data Techniques provide concise protocols in an easy-to-use format. Volumes in the collection are:
A similar series from Academic Press is Methods in Cell Biology. Search STARS by this title to see which individual volumes are available. Cumulative indexes are occasionally published and help provide fast access to the desired protocols. |
