U.S. Sheet Maps

These are miscellaneous maps of the United States. They are filed to the right of map reference desk in front of the topographic maps (see map of the Map Collection ). They are organized by Library of Congress (LC) classification number, which arranges maps by state and region. Some of the maps are cataloged and can be found on STARS, others have the first part (or "stem") of the call number written on them. A summary of the U.S. schedule of the LC map classification can be found at the end of these map cases near the map office.

A wide variety of maps can be found here. They include census maps of the United States, city maps, road maps, satellite images, and thematic maps. Most of the recent maps of New York State, New York City, and Long Island can be found in this section.

World Maps

Maps showing the entire world on a single sheet can be found at the beginning of the foreign sheet maps section. More detailed world maps covering the globe in two or more sheets are filed at the beginning of the foreign maps in series section. Many small-scale maps of the world can also be found in atlases .
