Students participate in both on-campus and off-campus news internships every semester. Faculty mentors follow the interns' progress, meeting regularly to help students develop both craft and workplace savvy. Among the organizations where Stony Brook student journalists have interned in the past year are the Southampton Press, Newsday, The Daily News, News12 and Glamour magazine.
Student Advisory Board and SOJ Faculty
Announce Second Annual Majors Banquet
The faculty of the School of Journalism and the school's Student Advisory Board are pleased to announce that the second annual Journalism Majors Banquet will be held on Thursday, April 24 at 8 p.m. in SAC Ballroom B.
Because our school's enrollment is growing so fast, the banquet guest list has been limited to juniors and seniors. The Journalism Awards, which were inaugurated last year, are therefore open only to junior and senior journalism majors, too.
The school will be awarding prizes in four categories this year. They are:
- Print Story -- News
- Print Story -- Narrative
- Broadcast Package
- On-line Package
Stories written and packages produced for JRN classes between April 1, 2007, and March 31, 2008 are eligible. Fresh copies must be submitted to the Journalism Office by Monday, April 7. (The deadline for the Narrative award has been extended to April 14 at the request of Professors Aronson and Virag.) Winners of these awards and the winner of the Herman Klurfeld Memorial Scholarship will be announced at the banquet.
