Student Guide

Residential Networking

In order for you to connect to the Internet from your room on campus, you need an ethernet cable. If you live in Roosevelt or Roth Quads, you will need a special RJ11-RJ45 cable which can only be purchased at Seawolves MarketPlace in the Student Activities Center.

The following residence halls require the standard CAT-5 ethernet cable (RJ45-RJ45) that can be purchased at any reliable computer store:

  • Chapin Apartments
  • H Quad
  • Kelly Quad
  • Mendelsohn Quad
  • Schomburg Apartments
  • Tabler Quad
  • West Apartments

Stony Brook Southhampton students need the standard CAT-5 cable (RJ45-RJ45) in order to access the Internet from their rooms.

Which Ethernet Cable Do You Need?

Don't Forget to Register

All students living on campus must register their computers on ResNet (The Residential Network). ResNet brings direct ethernet connectivity to the residential halls along with public jacks located on main campus.
